Better Than Nothing?
Sep 09, 2024If you care about what you have an who you want making decisions for you if your can't, then it is critical to have legally have written instructions in place. However, about 68-70% of the population has no written plan whatsoever. The focus of my law firm is to help people plan ahead the right way, taking into account avoiding an expensive court system, protecting beneficiaries who need it, and planning several steps ahead to account for contingencies. But what if you just needed to put something quick in place, and then you'll do the more extensive planning later? Would you go through a do-it-yourself process, or just leave things alone until you have time to do it properly and keep your fingers crossed that nothing happens?
Here are the statistics:
About 68-70% of Americans have no plan at all
Approximately 23-25% of Americans work with an attorney to put together their estate plan
That leaves about 5-9% of Americans download documents or use computer programs online to do their documents themselves
We always want to be a forward thinking law firm, so if we had the opportunity to offer a low cost, do-it-yourself planning option as a stopgap measure until you can *really* sit down and address estate planning, would you take advantage of it? Please help us out by providing your feedback in this survey. (Please take the survey even if you are hypothetically answering the question because you already have a plan.)
