Toss a Bag for Special Olympics!
Jul 22, 2024A few weeks ago, I was at the monthly meeting of the Triangle YP Civitan club, and one of the main topics of discussion was our annual Corn-a-ment fundraiser to benefit Special Olympics NC. The event will be held at Trophy's Maywood Hall and Garden (622 Maywood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27603) on Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 1-5 pm with the competition underway at 2 p.m.
As the name implies, it is a cornhole tournament with a silent auction, food and drinks, and other lawn games. My law office and publishing business have already made silent auction donations in the form of a private webinar for the winner and their loved ones as well as four tickets to the last Saturday Durham Bulls game this season on September 14. This year, my club didn't have a Master of Ceremonies lined up yet, and the board members really wanted someone to step up so that they could concentrate on making the event itself a success. So... yup... I volunteered.
For those of you who have known me for awhile, you know I gained most of my public speaking experience from doing seminars and a lot of presentations and addresses to non-profit groups I was involved in, so this is something I am used to. I was even a co-host for a high-end fundraising gala. I do have a very good event outline and event script, but one thing I have learned is stories and jokes make things a lot more entertaining. I will be working diligently on that over the next few weeks.
So here is the annual ask I make to help out the Corn-a-ment event for Special Olympics NC, and there are four main ways to help
* Sign up and create a team for only $40 here.
* Make a direct donation to the Special Olympics Over the Edge campaign here.
* Become a sponsor of the event here (https://drive.google.com/file/d/18rHUH1XSFJwLu4JupRHlY9eRqpFgp_7e/view)
* Come by Waywood on August 10 from 1 to 5 pm to check out the silent auction items and just have a great time! (https://www.trophybrewing.com/maywood-hall-garden-private-events)
In the law practice, I often have charitable bequests left in my clients' estate plans, but there is nothing like actually being at an event to enjoy your philanthropy while still alive with like-minded people.
I hope to see you there!
